Kirshnik Khari Ball (June 18, 1994 – November 1, 2022), known professionally as #Takeoff (Part 2)

EARLY LIFE:

Takeoff was raised by his mother, along with family members Quavo & Offset. He started making beats & developing rhythms in the seventh grade, but did not start producing music professionally until 2011.

CAREER: 2008–2018:

Early work with Migos: Along with Quavo & Offset, Takeoff began rapping in 2008. The group initially performed under the stage name Polo Club, but eventually changed their name to Migos. The group released their first full-length project, a mixtape titled “Juug Season”, on August 25, 2011. They followed with the mixtape “No Label”, on June 1, 2012.

RISE TO PROMINENCE:

Migos initially rose to prominence after the release of their single “Versace”, in 2013. The song was remixed by Canadian rapper Drake & peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart & number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Their debut studio album, “Yung Rich Nation”, was released in July 2015 & featured guest appearances from Chris Brown & Young Thug & production from Zaytoven & Murda Beatz. The album peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200.

FIERY FIRST SINGLE:

Migos achieved their first number one single in 2016 with “Bad & Boujee” feat Lil Uzi Vert, peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of January 21, 2017. The song has gone on to be certified four times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). While he can be seen in one of the background scenes in the music video, Takeoff is not featured nor credited on the song. Takeoff claimed that he was not featured on the song because he was busy at the time of recording.

ICONIC ANSWER:

During filming of Complex’s Everyday Struggle at the BET Awards 2017, he was questioned about his absence by hosts Joe Budden & DJ Akademiks, to which he replied, “Do it look like I’m left off ‘Bad & Boujee’?”. Takeoff’s response caused Budden to leave the set & an altercation between Migos, Budden & their entourages almost took place before it was broken up by security.

Kirshnik Khari Ball (June 18, 1994 – November 1, 2022), known professionally as #Takeoff

Born June 18, 1994 Lawrenceville, Georgia

Died: November 1, 2022 (Age 28) Houston, Texas

Cause of death: Gunshot wounds

Years active: 2008–2022

Occupation: Rapper/Songwriter

Genres: Hip Hop/Trap

Labels: Quality Control; Motown & Capitol

Formerly of Migos, Kirshnik Khari Ball (June 18, 1994 – November 1, 2022), known professionally as #Takeoff, was an American rapper. Along with his uncle Quavo & first cousin once removed Offset.

The group scored multiple top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 including “MotorSport” feat Nicki Minaj & Cardi B, “Stir Fry”, “Walk It Talk It” feat Drake & “Bad & Boujee” feat Lil Uzi Vert, the latter of which peaked at the top of the chart (although Takeoff was not present on the single). He also received two Grammy Award nominations. The single quickly became an internet sensation, giving birth to a multitude of memes that played off the lyrics “rain drop, drop top.” The song got an even bigger boost after “Atlanta” creator & star Donald Glover name-dropped the single during an acceptance speech at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.

I really wanna thank the Migos, not for being in the show, but for making ‘Bad & Boujee,’” Glover said at the time. “Like that’s the best song ever.” During a recent conversation on the podcast “Drink Champs” just days before his death, Takeoff accepted accolades for his stellar performance on the new project.

It’s time to pop it, you know what I mean? It’s time to give me my flowers, you know what I mean?, Takeoff said. “I don’t want them later on when I ain’t here.”

After a #hiatus #dmvstandup will pay #tribute to #TakeOff with a #magazine dedicated to him RIP🕊️

After a lengthy #hiatus, #dmvstandup #dmvstandupwewinning will pay #tribute to the fallen artist #TakeOff @yrntakeoff, in the form of an entire #magazine dedicated to him. Which, chronologically exhibits the quiet, but effective, meaningful, purposeful & determined life he lived, loved & enjoyed 🚀🚀🚀

After this horrifying & senseless execution went viral; coupled with the gruesome scenes of other great talented artists, like: #FBGDuck @real_fbgduck063, #YoungDolph @youngdolph, #KingVon @kingvonfrmdao, #Mo3 @hotboymo3, #PNBRock @pnbrock, #XXXTentacion @xxxtentacion, #PopSmoke @realpopsmoke so easily flooded the internet, I decided to back pedal on my efforts, task & assignment for a few ticks, while I try to grasp the concept of all these heinous deaths, that merely trend for a couple of days, then on to the next smh 🕊️

I’m numb, stagnated & baffled by it all & actually fearful to even highlight our babies from the #DMV, as they’re outta the way, for the most part & not a product of the “industry” chaos that’s been occurring & plaguing our culture, hearts & minds for the past 3 years. I said to myself, I’m good on trynna get them noticed, onna larger scale, just leave them be for now. Then, I wrestled with the fact that my promise; to do everything in my power, to help them level up, would be returned to me void & I had to weigh the odds, for which I decided to stick to the former for a while & refrain from showcasing local artists, until this irresponsible violence passes over 😩

In the interim, I’ll use the time to feature, showcase & pay tribute to the talented Kings & Queens, everywhere, who have left us too soon.

As always it’s still #SeeYouAtTheTOP
